HubPages Has Rewards

HubPages really is a great place to publish almost anything and it's the fastest media to get “Google Indexed” and listed at the top of the search pages to earn affiliate or Google Adsense commission providing you know a few simple techniques and rules.While I was publishing my first 35 Hubs I tried out numerous ways to improve sales and traffic; those experiments tested the boundaries of of what is allowed and the cause and effect of being penalized and losing traffic.

After putting into place a few simple ideas I now have a repeatable format for the page design and technique for maximizing the all important incoming traffic from search engines and the consequential Adsense and Affiliate commissions. Those are very important attributes to achieve during the developmental phase of creating a scheme of work that makes a small amount of money on a regular basis as a hobby and at the same time gives a real pleasure writing informative material that helps and entertains others. I shall explain how I increased my traffic by 40-50%, reduced visitor bounce and increased revenue by 30%.

Why Read This?. What Will I Gain?.

The reader will gain insights and knowledge about the following:

  1. The importance and construction of Keyword Meta Tag Titles.

  2. Indexing directly related pages using Hyperlinks.

  3. Creating an RSS Feed for indexed pages in HubPages and Google Feedburner.

Keyword Collection and Meta Tag Sentence Formation

There are a few ways to determine the best keywords:

(a) search engine experiments

(b) HubPages Metrics tools.

First of all make a list of keywords from your article and list them in an order od relevancy and give each word an importance priority and then enter the words one at a time at first in the search engine to perform word experiments; this is very useful in finding out which words rank high for any particular topic. Then pick out a combination of the most repetitive word combinations that gain the highest search page positions. Once you have a list of at least six popular words then determine the priority of each word and construct a sentence placing the highest priority word at the beginning of the sentence and words of secondary importance at the end of the sentence.

I recently published a Hub about a mobile phone application for trading the Forex Market that I made in Widgetbox and here is the Title Meta Tag used as an example:

Mobile/Android/ Foreign Exchange-Forex FX Live Widgets: News Desk, Quotes, Charts, Currency Rates, Brokers Directory APP

The first two words are addressing the audience, namely people who own smart phones. That announcement is immediately followed by the topic linked to mobile phones which is the Forex Market and that small collection of important high priority words are followed by the topic contents that covers the most popular but not all search engine word combination enquires.

The same technique can be applied to the next most important collection of tags, namely the meta-tag description. HubPages and search engines use the first 250 characters of an article as the meta-tag description. So it needs to be packed with all the key words that appeared in the title plus any others that are of secondary importance and relevance to the article into about three short meaningful sentences that contain the least amount of packing words: and, the, this, that, with, there, also etc.

Here is the meta description for the same example mobile phone page;

Trading the markets to buy and sell Currencies, Commodities, Indexes and Equity Stocks from a mobile or smart phone is becoming a reality. But it's not easy to watch the markets on an Android, Windows 7, IPhone or IPod without an application that shows real-time prices every 15 seconds.

On reflection perhaps the density of keywords could have been higher but the page is in receipt of healthy traffic so I am quite happy with the performance for the time being. It is also equally important not to over-do keywords; make the sentence comprehensible for humans and computers to avoid being penalized for Word Stuffing.

When I used those techniques first on the lowest ranking pages their individual scores increased by about 15 points lifting the overall average by 8 points and the traffic appreciated considerably a few days later and those revised levels of visitor interest have been maintained with much higher Adsense revenues.

After a Hub has been published for about three months the Hub Metrics feature starts to report statistics for the most popular key words and also makes useful suggestions for words that people use in searches that are not included in the title or tag list. This has proved a valuable tool in helping to tune-up the pages and titles.

Indexing directly related pages using Hyperlinks.

Putting an index to similar topic pages is an absolute must for Hubbers who have dorment or almost dead Hubs that only attract visitors each week that number closer to zero that three. I had some Hubs in various categories that gave useful information to the reader but were seldom read and that might have been more to do with search engine listing positions rather than content. The following simple technique helps to circulate traffic through a static hyper-linked index placed at the end of the article; all the dormant pages are then read, their scores increase and more opportunities to monetize the pages arise. This was found to be much more effective in terms of reducing Google's measure of visitor Bounce than placing an RSS Feed of Hot Hubs at the foot of the page; thus the Bounce measurement calculated in Google Analytics has reduced by some 7% and has the number of increased page views.

Here is how to implement this simple technique:

After identifying a group of pages that need an index open each page and highlight the Browser Address Bar and copy the page address then open a Link Capsule and paste the link into the URL entry box, add a Page Title, deselect the page description and save. Repeat this procedure for each entry and then repeat it after copying the page titles and URL's temporarily into Note Pad. See Link Capsule picture below.

Creating an RSS Feed using indexed pages in HubPages and Google Feed-burner.

The address format for constructing an RSS Feed is as follows:

//hubpages.com/tag/my+unique+id/pagetypes?rss

Replace the highlighted words with page specific identifiers. Separate each tag word in the middle part of the address with a “+” symbol.

Each group of pages need a unique identification that can be alphanumeric. The unique identifier is then put into the key-word tags list of each target page and into the RSS address format shown above. Then put the address into the RSS Feed capsule using either Hot or Best or Latest in place of Page Types. Once the new key-word tag has been put into the page tags list on each target page it takes HubPages about three hours to activate the Feed Stream.

This procedure can be repeated for each sub-section of Hub's and the RSS Feeds can then be put into the Google Feed-burner and prepared for wider distribution beyond HubPages; there are many RSS Feed submission sites and free Blog Sites that accept the RSS Chicklet created in Google for promoting ideas and products in conjunction with Google Adsense advertising therefore creating even more opportunities for generating more streams of revenue from the original work done publishing a Hub.

Everything mentioned here has been tried and tested to be successful, I wish all readers the same success and that is why I have shared what now seems so simple yet elusive while I was learning.

You didn't mention keyword stuffing, which can have a negative effect in serps if you place too many in the first paragraph.

I gave an example which should suffice; the emphasis is on improving site traffic however your comment is quite true. Perhaps another Hub about how to compromise your Hubs ranking should cover that as a separate topic.

Great tips, and you have explained in an elaborate manner.
